Advancing health care through community-based research
We value our communities and their part in advancing meaningful research and impactful healthcare solutions. We integrate participant insights and perspectives to inform our community-based research. Their contributions are vital and shape the direction, implementation, and impact of our studies. This collaboration ensures that our findings are both relevant and actionable, bringing tailored solutions to meet the specific needs and concerns of the communities we serve.
Supporting Aging and Wellness Needs of Older Adults
Our goal is to boost social connections for older adults. We've created a plan that includes educating students and faculty, using a survey to assess connections, identifying those at risk of isolation, educating participants, and setting goals to enhance their social interactions.
Produce Prescription Plan
Recognizing food insecurity's impact on diet quality among Black Americans in low-income urban areas, our clinicians observed many participants struggling with access to healthy food. In response, we secured funding for weekly fresh produce deliveries, screen for food insecurity and create referral pathways for nutritious food.
Geriatric Workforce Enhancement Program
Our program is leading a training program for nurses and nursing assistants employed by Sheltering Arms Rehabilitation Center. The training focuses on improving care for older community members in post-acute settings, ensuring they receive the best support during their recovery.
NEXUS Program
Through this project, students study the MHWP model for pregnant and postpartum women. By listening to community needs, asking relevant research questions, and sharing findings, they explore community-engaged care models and their effectiveness and recommend ways to improve care and benefit the community.
RAMS Study
The study aims to identify early signs of mild cognitive impairment and dementia by developing digital tools that track daily movement. These indicators may predict cognitive decline in older adults in the community, focusing on how social health influences the link between daily activities and cognitive function.
